Animating a Flour Sack!
Pantomime: A Drunk Flour Sack!?
Week of Sept 13th- Week of Sept 20th
What a classic little lad! An icon!! The floursack figure!!!
I honestly just love flour sack figure projects, so simple yet so useful and very fun! Every time! I was feeling a lot better and not Emo™ this week and just happened to have my schedule cleared to focus a lot of time into this project, so I put a lot more effort in this week than the project previous. We started off with practicing gesture drawings with the Flour sack characters. I like to keep a seam line in my characters just so its a bit easier to get a sense of the characters mass, so I included this detail in my cleaned up sketches:
I like how the flour sack character is a very malleable figure, especially how squashy and stretchy they are. So when choosing an idea for what I should animate one doing, I figured drunk walking involves a lot of sporadic movements that could include this, so duh this was my obvious choice. I put the poor lil guy in a dank alley just to fit the mood, not because of personal experiences of passing out drunk in an alley... cough cough.
Ultimately, I think I could've pushed the poses even more instead of relying on just rotating the figure, especially during the leans when they loose balance. I think also I'd like the animation as a whole to be slower, so maybe I could've animated it either on 2's or just added more in-betweens ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm not mad at it though! I don't hate how it turned out and I still think that viewers will interpret the lil lad as a just a tipsy guy trying to get home bake to the bakery!
